As Iโve been delving deeper into the world of minerals and gemstones for my upcoming book, one stone, in particular, has taken center stage: the moonstone. Moonstones have long been associated with the Moon, which makes perfect sense when you look at their soft, ethereal sheen.
I must admit that I first wrote the moonstone into the story without extensively researching how it has been used in history, which attributes have been assigned to it by different cultures, and what it might say about those cultures. I have now rectified this oversight, and, to my surprise, I have found in my latest research that the characteristics and beliefs many cultures attribute to moonstones actually resonate with how I’ve used moonstones in my story so far.
In my research, I discovered that many cultures believe moonstones can enhance psychic abilities and help people connect with their subconscious. This aligns beautifully with some of the themes Iโm exploring in my book, where characters are on journeys of self-discovery, guided by forces they canโt always see or understand.
But the moonstone isn’t just about the mysticalโit’s also a stone of protection. Ancient travelers would carry it for safe passage, trusting in its ability to guide them through the night.
Both of these elements – connection with the subconscious and the journeys associated with such connections – are main features of moonstones in the world of the Sunderer Saga. I realize this last bit must be a little unclear but I am trying hard not to give away any spoilers.
As I continue to weave moonstones into the fabric of my story, Iโm struck by how much this gemstone symbolizes the journey Iโm on as a writer. Just like the characters in my book, Iโm learning to embrace the unknown, to trust the process, and to let the magic unfold in its own time.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Iโm excited to share more about how moonstones, and other elements, are shaping the world of my story. Stay tuned for more insights and sneak peeks as I continue to write!
